Global Governance Workshop
Date: 9 December 2008
This informal workshop examined how the recent explosion in technology, and particularly biotechnology has increased inequality globally as those countries who can afford to exploit and develop technologies advance at a pace that far outstrips less developed nations.
Speaker(s): Dan Brock (Harvard) and Allen Buchanan (Duke)
Venue: James Martin 21st Century School, University of Oxford
Scientific development and technology have proved difficult to regulate, but without informed policy decisions now on their use, technologies that have the power to improve the condition of the human race could in fact cause further division and harm. The workshop also examined whether and how we can develop governance across international boundaries to ensure the new knowledge we are gaining today improves the future for everyone.
