Professor Nick Bostrom, Dr. Anders Sandberg, and Dr. Eric Drexler will speak on September 28 at Futurefest 2013, an event designed to “enlarge our sense of what’s possible, so that we can all play our part in shaping things to come.”

On Sunday morning, Professor Bostrom will deliver a keynote on “Superintelligence and the Unknown”, mapping out the extremes of optimism and pessimism that span our current imagination of the near-to-mid future. Bostrom’s talk will open the “Sermons for the Future” section of the event, which will include as a speaker CSER Co-founder Jaan Tallinn.

Dr. Eric Drexler and Dr. Anders Sandberg will speak on Saturday Morning as part of the Oxford Martin School’s “Future Deeper” segment. Drexler, along with Sonia Trigueros, Daisy Ginsberg and Carole Scott, will present on “Bio/Nano: the huge consequences of controlling the very small”, outlining how atomically-precise manufacturing and synthetic  biology could together open up a new era of radical abundance. Sandberg, with Bertolt Meyer, Steve Fuller, Ghislaine Boddington and Andy Miah, will present on “Humanity 2.0: dealing with enhancement”; how will coming enhancements – neurological, molecular, prosthetic, computational – redefine our understanding of ‘normal’ humanity?
