Interactive media player used by BEP and FHI wins OxTALENT award for use of IT in Learning and Teaching.
An interactive media player, developed by Bryce Goodman (Research Associate, Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics) and used by BEP and FHI, wins OxTALENT award for use of IT in Learning and Teaching.
The project, supported by the James Martin 21 Century School's collaboration fund, enabled the Institutes to integrate background and supplemental media such as slides, papers and digital footnotes into their Chancellor's Court of Benefactor lecture videos, increasing the learning potential for novices and experts alike. Key features of the player are:
- Digital footnotes: Appear where links to supplementary material are embedded. The user has the ability to click and access paper abstracts, data charts, news articles, wiki's, etc. all without leaving the video player.
- Synced Slides: Separate, expandable display of slides synchronized with video; filming the speaker and slides separately (rather than in one shot) results in far better video quality.
- Timeline Indexing: The timeline is indexed to allow the user to jump easily between sections, allowing for a customized learning experience and immediate overview of the lecture content.
The OxTALENT Awards Ceremony will take place at OUCS on Thursday 17 June at 4.15. To see this new player in action and to view the talks, follow the links below:
