FHI Research Associate Allan Dafoe and Stuart Russell have published “Yes, We Are Worried About the Existential Risk of Artificial Intelligence” in MIT Technology Review as a response to an article by Oren Etzioni.

The response argues that Etzioni’s article used poor survey design, and included a misleading interpretation of the results.  The authors include a more detailed analysis comparing the results of Etzioni’s 2016 survey with that of Muller & Bostrom (2014), and find that they are similar.

Etzioni issued a constructive response to Dafoe & Russell’s article and an apology, which the editors have included at the end of the article.
