On the 10th February, the Future of Humanity Institute (FHI) hosted the Normative Uncertainty Workshop. Normative uncertainty is the problem of uncertainty about which moral frameworks are correct.

The workshop examined the theoretical and practical questions which hinge on normative uncertainty and the existing proposals for resolving normative uncertainty. We convened experts from FHI, the Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA), Princeton University, and the University of Zurich.

Participants discussed how uncertainty impacts welfare comparisons, existential risk, and value specification. The workshop finished with participants considering the most productive lines of future exploration.
