The Director of the United States Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) visited the Future of Humanity Institute (FHI) today. Dr. Matheny joined researchers for discussions of biosecurity, artificial intelligence safety and existential risk reduction policy, among other topics. FHI has been advising IARPA on issues related to existential risk for some time. IARPA is the intelligence counter-part to DARPA, and funds high-risk/high-payoff research aimed at predicting events more accurately and improving security. Dr. Matheny was a Research Associate at FHI from 2009 to 2010.
